Local Colorado Wildlife Artist, Frank Dougherty, presents a unique collection of big game and wildlife sculpture. Frank Dougherty began his art training at the early age of eleven, under the tutorage of Fredrick and Josephine Reiniger. He continued his studies in high school under the direction of Fran Chauncey.
Frank was accepted and attended the Hussein School of Art in Philadelphia. Upon completion of the four year art program, Frank traveled across the United States, refining his painting skills. In 1977, he established his studio and home at the foot of Pikes Peak and the Rocky Mountains. Inspired by the stunning scenery and abundance of big game animals, his painting and sculpture reflect his appreciation of animals in their natural habitat.
Frank’s collections are highly prized by art collectors and sportsmen alike and appeared in Wild Wings Catalog, Cabelas Catalog, and Mangy Moose. Collectors have come to recognize his fine workmanship and his stunning accuracy and attention to detail. His work can also be seen in galleries and fine gift shops across the United States.
Each piece is original, expertly engineered by Frank to capture the exacting detail of each animal. Each piece is cast in high quality sculpting medium to ensure strength and durability. Specially formulated colors are hand painted on each piece to emulate the animals as they appear in the wild. The pieces can be displayed with real dried vegetation to show animals in their natural habitat.
The entire collection is created piece by piece in his studio in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Frank creates his nature sculptures in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He says, “I love to paint so my sculpture is my three-dimensional canvas.” His originals are first carved in wax which can takes years of creation and perfecting. Once a wax piece is completed, Frank designs and produces his own molds to create an exact replica of his original wax creations. Frank and family members help cast each piece into the mold using a high density casting material made to produce highly detailed pieces. Finally, he personally paints and completes each piece so no pieces are ever exactly the same. He personally signs each piece.
